Impact of latest action by China on Polysilicon imports

Global Business

China is trying to tighten the loopholes in its Polysilicon imports.

From September, it will suspend applications from solar companies to import the polysilicon under so-called “processing trade” rules. Under the processing trade category, materials used in domestic manufacturing is exempt from import duties if the finished product is then exported.

Polysilicon is used to produce solar panels. Polysilicon imports under processing trade rules surged after China imposed duties on shipments from the U.S., South Korea and Europe. China charged as much as 57 percent for imports from these countries earlier this year.
