US Soccer Foundation using sport to help low income kids

The 2014 World Cup was watched by millions of viewers throughout the world. It also gained a huge new soccer following here in the United States. One organization that’s been trying to make the sport more popular is the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the foundation serves as the major source of charitable support for U.S. soccer. Since 1994, it has awarded over $59 million in financial support to soccer organizations and field-building initiatives throughout the world.

It’s a leader in sports-based youth development and uses soccer to implement social change with low-income children in urban areas.

Elaine Reyes sits down with one of the Foundation’s leaders, David Sutphen to discuss the foundation’s impact on kids in Washington, D.C.
