Gazan hospitals declare emergency as cease-fire collapses

World Today

The temporary cease-fire between Israel and Hamas collapsed Tuesday. Each side blames the other for breaking the truce as rockets continue to fire in both directions.

Renewed Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed at least 20 Palestinians since Tuesday. Hospital officials in the region have announced a state of emergency, as they expect an increasing number of casualties to arrive at the hospital within days.

One of the Israeli airstrikes targeted the al-Dalou family home in central Gaza City, killing the wife and child of Hamas military chief Mohammed al-Deif.

Thousands of Palestinian families fled their homes to go back to U.N. schools and hospitals seeking safety.

Hamas officials in Gaza have denied responsibility for the three rockets that were fired at Israel early Tuesday evening. However, they claimed responsibility for rockets fired after the Israeli air-strikes on Gaza. Hamas accuses Israel of trying to drag Gaza into escalated warfare.

After the temporary cease-fire collapsed, more than 60 Israeli airstrikes were launched on Gaza. Hamas fired over 80 rockets at Israel.
