European leaders are showing increased solidarity in the effort to confront the rise of the Islamic State.

France’s President called an international conference to form a global strategy in Iraq and Syria. Leaders in Italy and Germany followed France in pledging more military aid to Kurdish forces.

European countries, especially France, see the rise of IS as a direct threat to European security. They are also increasingly alert of the possible return of radicalized fighters to their home soil.
