Janet Yellen: Job market not recovered

Global Business

U.S. Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen is hosting her first meeting of international central bankers, economists and policymakers.

The annual talks on global economies will take place in Wyoming. This year’s theme is labor market dynamics.

Yellen says she wants to maximize U.S. employment. But the Fed is concerned this objective could be harmed if interest rates are raised from record lows too quickly, discouraging employers from hiring. In October, the central bank is due to end a multi-trillion dollar program aimed at stimulating the economy.

Janet Yellen’s first annual conference of central bankers takes place in a very different economic climate to many of those held by her predecessor.
