Pressure increases on Israel to reach a Gaza cease-fire

Wednesday will mark the 50th day of fighting between Israel and Hamas and the start of the conflict’s eighth week. In recent days, approval ratings for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have taken a dramatic turn which has increased the pressure on Israel to reach a Gaza ceasefire deal. CCTV America’s Roee Ruttenberg reports.

It was supposed to be a quick and decisive victory of Israel’s Gaza offensive, as described by some local politicians, but that was nearly two months ago.

The rockets, that the campaign meant to effectively stop, kept coming. The military kept striking and the death toll kept rising both in Gaza and Israel.

More than 60 Israelis have been killed so far and almost all of them are soldiers. This made it Israel’s deadliest war in nearly a decade.

Poll results showed that just a third of Israelis approved how Netanyahu is handling the conflict. It’s a dramatic drop compared to last week and even more dramatic compared to last month.

The government announced this week that they would try to help people living in southern communities financially and logistically. This effort might regain some of the support it appears to be losing.
