Iraq’s military, Kurdish forces and Shiite militias are teaming-up to try to free the town of Amerli in northern Iraq.

Thousands of Shiites are under siege by Islamic State Sunni militants. The town has been under siege for two months.

The U.N. has called for urgent action to stop a massacre in the town.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Friday he will introduce new laws to combat extremism, pledging to seize passports to fight what he described as a militant extremist threat more dangerous than any previously seen.

Cameron’s remarks came just after authorities on Friday raised the terror threat level to severe, the second highest level.

Colonel Wes Martin is a former Anti-terrorism and Force Protection Officer of all Coalition forces in Iraq.
