New York’s Chinatown bakeries hit new market with ‘fusion’ mooncakes

Mooncakes are a relatively novel discovery for non-Chinese Americans, but Chinatown bakers say that people of all cultures are developing a taste for the sweet confections. CCTV America’s Karina Huber reports.

In New York City’s Chinatown, there’s no shortage of bakeries selling mooncakes to celebrate China’s Mid-autumn Festival. The traditional mooncakes are made with lotus seeds or egg yolks, but bakeries in New York’s Chinatown created a boom in fusion mooncakes made with other ingredients such as green tea and ice cream.
