They bear not just emotional scars, but physical ones as well. Consider this: The group Handicap International says, 60 percent of those injured in Syria were wounded by either bombings or shillings. Gunshots wounded nearly a third.

Most people report broken bones. But according to the group, one in four refugees, injured by explosive weapons, have suffered an amputation, and their road to recovery is especially hard made worse by the fact that medical support to treat amputees is non-existent.

It is not just a problem in Syria, but in other places, too like Iraq or Congo. This story takes a look at some of the new technologies being used to help amputees in the United States. Here, many amputees are veterans of war losing limbs on the battlefield. CCTV-America’s Hendrik Sybrandy has this “insight” report from the U.S state of Colorado.
