For the first time, the government side is using sophisticated missiles against the militants in an effort to force them out of their fortified hideouts. The military refuses to comment on what type of weapons, but reports suggest they are newly supplied and are of the variety that’s effective on tunnels and bunkers.

Tunnels, which the soldiers are finding regularly in the area, and are the biggest challenge confronting the advancing troops. Supported by tanks, that provide much needed protection and firepower, the military says its soldiers are making slow but steady progress against the rebels.
