Water diversion project to tackle northern drought in China

Testing is being carried out along different sections of what is one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects. Once complete, the project will allow for water from the south of the country to be carried to drought-prone areas in the north.

The operation is expected to start soon, once testing is finished. Starting today, CCTV News presents a special ten-day series called “Quenching a Mighty Thirst”. In the first episode, CCTV’s Han Bin takes a look at how serious the water shortage is, and what the government is doing about it.

Conditions are the driest that farmer Kang Zhenyun has seen in his lifetime.
