Strikes on Syria: developments overshadow original plans at UN

World Today

The airstrikes come at a time when the world’s leaders are gathering at the United Nations in New York. CCTV America’s Nathan King reports.

The strikes coming just as 140 world leaders descend on New York for the U.N. General Assembly. They overshadowed in part the key Climate Change summit that was to be the U.N. Secretary General’s centerpiece this week. Instead, he had to address the legitimacy of the U.S.-led action.

It was meant to be the day when the temperature of the planet took center stage at the U.N., but instead it was the U.S.-led airstrikes against so-called Islamic State and other terrorists that the U.N. chief had to address first.
