Palestinians, Israelis share stories of loved ones lost in conflict

A truce between Israeli forces and Palestinian factions fighting over Gaza is set to expire in the coming days. Both sides have sent a delegation to Cairo to discuss a possible extension. Meanwhile, bereaved Israelis and Palestinians are meeting in Israel to discuss a way to end the cycle of violence. CCTV America’s Roee Ruttenberg reports from Tel Aviv.

On Saturday afternoon, Israelis and Palestinians alike gathered in Tel Aviv with one thing in common: each had lost at least one loved one in the conflict. They gathered together to share their grief and listen to others. While they were divided by language, religion, and identity, they were united through they’re mutual pain.

Organizers say meetings like these grew in numbers during the 50-day conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinians factions in Gaza. The Palestinians in Tel Aviv were bused-in from the West Bank, with special permits from the Israeli military. Gazans don’t have such accommodations, and thus could not participate.

It’s a message of dialogue most often embraced by the Israeli political left and aimed at the current government led by the political right.
