Residents fear longterm damage from Mexican mine’s toxic spill

40-million liters of sulphuric acid leaked from the Buenavista copper mine in the northwestern Mexican State of Sonora into local rivers last month. The Mexican environmental minister called it the country’s worst mining disaster in modern times. CCTV America’s John Holman reports.

Authorities in northern Mexico have issued a new alert of a toxic spill in the Sonora River basin from a copper mine operated by Grupo Mexico. Local residents have been warned to keep people and livestock away from the water until it can be tested.
