Four new graves found in Mexico believed to contain bodies of missing students

Mexican authorities have found four new graves that they believe contain the bodies of 43 students who went missing following clashes with police. Police have so far detained 34 people in this case. CCTV America’s Franc Contreras reports.

Many distressed parents are gathering at the school the students attended in the town of Ayotzinapa in the southwestern state of Guerrero. The classrooms in this school have been empty since Friday, September 26th, the day the students went missing.

Carlos is one of these missing students. His father, who wishes to protect his identity out of fear of reprisals, says Carlos wanted to attend the school and transform his life out of poverty.

“We, as their parents, demand that the ones who took our sons away face justice,” another father of a missing student named Fernando said.

Another missing classmate, Jose Solano Ramirez, comes from one of the poorest regions in Guerrero, which is among Mexico’s poorest states.

According to reports, many of the missing students are indigenous Mexicans from rural communities.

For more on the missing students in Mexico, CCTV America was joined by Laura Carlsen from the Center for International Policy. She is the director of their Americas program.
