Liberia’s Monrovia becomes first capital with Ebola

Ebola Outbreak

In urban, densely-populated areas, Ebola is more likely to pass between people living and working in such close proximity. And it has, as the infection rate accelerates in Monrovia.

This is the first time an Ebola outbreak has spread to a country’s capital. Early on, the Liberian government banned more than three people from being in the back of a car. Passengers are being much more careful with public transport.

The World Health Organization said that shared taxis, which are a common mode of transportation in Monrovia, are a particularly risky source of potential virus transmission. In a densely packed urban area like Monrovia, it is difficult not to come into contact with people.

Ebola is spread through direct contact with an infected person’s bodily fluids once they are showing symptoms of the disease.
