U.S. investors are not losing confidence this October, despite the VIX — an index measuring market volatility — spiking to its highest level in about two years.

This year has seen high market volatility, but confidence among U.S. investors is at its highest level since 2009, according to a survey by the Center for Audit Quality.

The survey revealed that 73 percent of investors have confidence in U.S. capital markets. That number is not far from pre-housing crisis levels.

The top three reasons for optimism are a belief in the market system and capitalism, confidence in the U.S. government, and satisfaction with their own investment portfolios.

The survey also found that Americans are unsure about putting their money outside of the U.S. Less than half surveyed cited confidence in European and Asian markets. Experts say economic and political uncertainty have kept U.S. investors wary.

The growing level of investor confidence in U.S. markets is good news for Chinese companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges, such as Alibaba and JD.com.
