One More Question for Michel Sidibé: Is social justice the biggest victim of the Ebola crisis?

Ebola Outbreak

The UN’s Ebola mission chief said the world was falling behind in the race to contain the virus, on Thursday.

CCTV’s Special Contributor James Chau interviewed Michel Sidibé, the Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and asked him if he thought social justice is the biggest victim of Ebola.

“I think what you are saying is very important because social justice is key. Health is a right of people. But what we are seeing today in West Africa is lack of health services, lack of distribution of opportunities,” Sidibé said.

“Look at the countries that are faced with the crisis today, where they were faced with war just a few years back… Liberia, Sierra Leone… you have one health worker for 10,000 people, when in Switzerland there are 44 doctors for 10,000 people, so we need to really address this social injustice.”
