Weeks of turmoil have cast a huge shadow over Hong Kong’s economy and social stability. Fears are growing that the original protest leaders and student groups are losing control of a movement which they pledged would be peaceful.

A day ahead of scheduled talks with the government, protest leaders in Hong Kong may be losing control of the movement that has lasted for weeks. The three main organizers of Occupy Central have noticeably reduced their public appearances, and have been gradually handing over leadership to various student groups.
