Now in his mid-thirties, professional dancer Arturo Garcia understands that he won’t be able to dance forever. He and his wife, dancer Katherine Horrigan, have opened Company Danzante to train the next generation of dancers.

The couple has a troupe of young dancers that they mentor. Danzante performs all over the Washington D.C. metro area and was recently commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts as part of its 2014 Local Dance Commissioning project.

Garcia recently sat down with Americas Now’s Elaine Reyes to discuss his transition from dancer to teacher, new innovations in dances from Latin America and how he draws on his Mexican heritage to inspire his craft.
