Elections were held in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, others are coming up this weekend, and major mid-term elections are next week in the United States. The Heat explores what are the stakes in two very different parts of the world.

In Ukraine last weekend, the troubled country held parliamentary elections. This Sunday, people in the self-proclaimed, largely pro-Russian, independent republics of Donetsk and Luhansk will hold their own elections. The outcome could have major consequences. CCTV America’s Kate Parkinson reports.

For more discussion on the elections in Ukraine, The Heat was joined by a panel of experts:

    • Peter Voitsekhovsky, research director for the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation.
    • Alexander Nekrassov, a former adviser to the Kremlin.

Millions of voters all across the United States will head to the polls next Tuesday in crucial mid-term elections.

The Heat panel discussed the mid-term elections in the U.S.

  • Sean Callebs, CCTV America’s correspondent, who has been talking to voters across America over the last few weeks.
  • Holger Stark, Washington bureau chief for Der Spiegel magazine.
