A British man appeared in a Hong Kong court on suspicion of murdering two young women, one of whom was discovered inside a suitcase. CCTV America’s Cathy Yang reports.

The grisly crimes happened at a upscale residential apartment building along the busy Johnston Street in Wan Chai. One woman, between 25 and 30 years old, was found with stab wounds. The body of a second woman was found inside a suitcase on the balcony.

The 29-year-old British national Rurik Jutting was arrested on suspicion of double murder after the bodies were found in his apartment. Police also recovered a knife at the scene. Jutting declined to enter a plea on the charges at the Eastern Court in Hong Kong on Monday. He had, until recently, held a job at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He resigned a week ago.

One of the victims, Sumarti Ningsih, is believed to have been killed several days before she was found. Ningsih was identified on Sunday by her cousin, who works as a domestic worker in Hong Kong.

Wan Chai, the district where the apartment is located, is known for its bustling nightclub scene and is popular with expats and staffed by sex workers from southeast Asia. A bar worker who knew one of the girls said she came from Indonesia.

The grisly crimes left Hong Kong in shock., as it’s a city known for its relatively low murder and crime rates.
