Years of war in Afghanistan, have created 1.5 million children into orphans. CCTV America’s Asieh Namdar interviewed one woman who is helping children find homes and hope.

For the past 10 years, Andeisha Farid has created safe home for hundreds of orphans in Afghanistan who had nowhere to turn in a country that has endured Soviet invasion, the Taliban’s brutal regime, and suicide bombings.

Her organization, the Afghan Child Education and Care Organization is a place for those children to put behind their painful pasts. More than 600 children in 11 orphanages come from different ethnic backgrounds, but Farid says everyone is treated with respect and dignity.

Born during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Farid said she wanted to give back after spending her childhood in refugee camps of Pakistan and Iran.

Farid puts great emphasis on education, especially for girls who were banned from attending school under the Taliban. Her vision for improving the lives of Afghan youth has gained international recognition, including praise from U.S. President Barack Obama.

For more insight on the struggles of Afghan youth, CCTV America interviewed human rights activist, Nilofar Sakhi.
