Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and author James Risen of the New York Times spoke to CCTV America’s Anand Naidoo about the current state of press freedoms. The author of “State of War: The Secret History of the CIA and the Bush Administration,” answered one more question from Naidoo about how whether the Obama administration is a threat to the First Amendment.

“I think that the record speaks for itself, they’ve prosecuted more whistleblowers and targeted more journalists than any other administration, in fact in all previous administrations combined,” Risen said. “They have also engaged in greater secrecy than any past administration and they have used new technology to try to impose greater control over employees.”

“One of the things that I’ve found chilling is the new program inside the intelligence community is the new program called the ‘Insider Threat’ program. It’s essentially a way for the intelligence community to monitor all employees with security clearances on an almost constant basis. they say they’re looking for anomalies in their personal behavior and it’s very Orwellian, they think that there’s no rights to privacy or due process for someone just because they have a security clearance. and they’re also encouraging people inside the intelligence community to inform on other coworkers, so it’s like they’re creating a police state within the government.”
