Peruvian President Ollanta Humala held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday where the two leaders discussed increased cooperation in trade, energy, mining, infrastructure, and agriculture. Humala spoke to CCTV American in Beijing about his meeting and his attendance at the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in China.

Humala said that he accomplished many things in this trip, including approving the road map to establish a free trade zone for the Asia Pacific region.

“We have just completed a very important visit. It is very important for Peru since we are one of the 21 economies that forms APEC forum. We just had two days where we accomplished many things,” he said.

Xi said the two countries should have more contact and exchanges between legislative organizations and parties, promote the development of a bilateral free trade area, and increase cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, mining, infrastructure and agriculture. China will also participate in the construction of a railway from the Peru’s Pacific coast to Brazil’s Atlantic coast, Xi said.
