Couples around the world are having fewer children, and in some cases are opting out on parenthood altogether. It remains uncertain what impact this will have on local economies.

Some population experts argue that a population decline could harm local economies, that depend on taxes to fund government programs. However according to a recent study by the East-West Center and the University of California Berkley, a lower birth rate could boost the standard of living.

CCTV America interviewed Andrew Mason at the East-West about impact of the decline in births.
