Some people have predicted the 2022 World Cup to be one of the most controversial in the event’s history. Ever since Qatar was awarded the event in 2010, there have been serious questions raised. Some wondered why a small middle-eastern desert nation with a limited football tradition is getting to host the world’s biggest sporting extravaganza.

Meanwhile, football’s world governing body, FIFA, conducted its own internal investigation into corruption allegations. However, when a summary report was released last week, it set off yet another fire-storm. CCTV America’s John Gilmore reported this story.

CCTV America interviewed Owen Gibson. He is chief sports correspondent for the Guardian newspaper.

For more on the 2022 World Cup, CCTV America interviewed Qatari TV sports show host Abdulrhman AL-Abduljabbar via Skype.
