Xiangshan Forum discusses managment of heated South China Sea disputes

Beijing is holding its fifth Xiangshan Forum, a conference focusing on international security and defense issues. One of the issues being discussed is maritime security. Chinese officials have stressed the importance of managing maritime disputes through dialogue and mechanisms. CCTV America’s Han Bin had the report from Beijing.

The South China Sea disputes are key security issues. China’s maritime frontier is also an international flash point with competing claims by many countries.

During the security forum, Defense Minister Chang Wanquan said that China wants to enhance dialogue to manage disputes with its neighbors. It’s a message that the country wants resolution through peaceful means. In the face of the many heated issues, China is working toward building trust with all the countries that have claims in the South China Sea.
