New e-Tree uses solar panel branches to connect people

The Israeli company Sologic has developed an e-Tree, a high-tech creation that has solar panels for branches to harvest the sun’s energy and provide electricity, USB power, Wi-Fi, and shade to users. CCTV’s Stephanie Freid reported this story from Central Israel.

Modeled after the desert acacia three, the e-Tree is part social-environment project and ecological sculpture intended to bring solar energy and environmental awareness to the public and link urban centers with the environment.

Designers hope to add a screen on the tree that will enable someone in central Israel to tap it and connect and communicate with someone as far away as Beijing.

“The people in Shanghai, for instance, are now negotiating with us the number of trees and hopefully some of them will be planted, or installed more properly in Shanghai very soon,” Claude Brightman, Sologic spokesperson said.

The philosophy behind the e-Tree’s inception is about slowing down people’s day.

“[The tree tells people to] sit down, relax, charge yourself, your mobile telephone, connect to the world via the Wi-Fi and I’ll be here tomorrow, you can come join me tomorrow, and I’m not requesting anything,” inventor Michael Lasry said.
