First Athens Santa Run raises money for local playgrounds

The streets of Athens were overrun by hundreds of Santa Clauses. They were trying to spread a little Christmas cheer, as well as raise money for the less fortunate. CCTV America’s Eirini Zarkadoula reported the story from Athens.

The Santa Race was held on Sunday morning in the center of Athens. Common people dressed in red like Santas participated in the first such race in Athens.

Men, women and kids ran the 2.5 kilometer (1.5 miles)  in empty streets of the city.

Each participant in the race raised 10 euros ($12.44) for the cause, with proceeds to going towards restoring the playgrounds of Athens.

The runners were not timed, all participants ran for a good cause and a good time.
