Brazil’s National Truth Commission released its final report on Wednesday documenting human rights abuses committed during a military dictatorship that ended nearly 30 years ago.

The report documents 434 politically motivated killings and disappearances under the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil from 1964 to 1985. According to the report, Brazil’s military conducted a “systematic practice” of arbitrary detentions, torture, executions, forced disappearance and the hiding of bodies.

It is the result of a investigation of a truth commission that spent almost three years investigating human rights abuses during the military era. As many as 20,000 are believed to have been tortured during the military rule.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, who was imprisoned and tortured by the military regime, burst into tears when she received the findings.
