What the gun debate in America looks like two years after Sandy Hook

It’s been just over two years since 20 children and six adults were killed by a lone gunman in Newtown, Connecticut. The mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School sparked outrage in the U.S., and a debate about gun violence continued. 

The Newtown massacre prompted Colorado legislators to approve background checks for virtually all gun sales and ban large capacity ammunition magazines of more than 15 rounds, but the expanded background checks were defeated in the U.S. Senate.
