Japanese Prime Minister and leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Shinzo Abe points a reporter for questions during a press conference in Tokyo, Monday, Dec. 15, 2014.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his coalition were victorious by a landslide in the Japanese parliamentary elections Sunday. Amidst Japanese economic concerns, The Heat explores whether Abe be able to turn around his nation’s economy in the next few years.

Abe made headlines last month when he dissolved Japan’s parliament and called for new elections. Despite low voter turnout, Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito Party won two-thirds majority in the Parliament’s Lower House this weekend.

CCTV America’s Terrence Terashima reported this story from Tokyo.

For more on the change in Japan, The Heat interviewed a panel of experts:

  • Shihoko Goto, a Northeast Asia associate at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC
  • Jim Nolt, Senior fellow at the World Policy Institute

The panel continues to discuss the recent Japanese parliamentary elections.
