World Today

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, or MH370, with 239 people on board, went missing less than an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur on March 8th. So began the largest and most expensive search in aviation history, but there is still no confirmation of any flight debris. On March 24th, the Malaysian government concluded that “flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean,” noting that the final location determined by the satellite communication was far from any possible landing sites. The underwater search continues by Australian authorities, who are convinced the plane is somewhere in the south Indian Ocean. By early December, over 3,500 square miles of seafloor had been searched.

During the crisis, a great deal of attention focused on the plight of family members of the passengers on board MH370. Their emotions ranged from hope to despair. But one mother fought to contain her anger and frustration as she struggled to cope with the seemingly endless wait for answers. CCTV’s James Chau spoke exclusively with Liu Guiqiu – the mother of Malaysia Airlines passenger, Li Le.
