Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is currently in Beijing for an official visit to elevate ties and increase trade between the two nations. On the second day of his trip, he held separate meetings with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and top legislator Zhang Dejiang. CCTV’s Su Yuting reported from Beijing.

In al-Sisi’s first visit to China since taking office in June, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues, with trade and investment topping the list.

Li announced China would be involved in big infrastructure projects in Egypt, including the construction of a high-speed railway, an undersea tunnel, a nuclear power plant, and that it would push forward the establishment of the Suez Canal economic corridor.

“Egypt has been working to ensure security and revitalize its economy. Egypt has attached great importance to the development of bilateral ties with China. China appreciates those efforts,” Li said.

Zhang said the agreement to elevate ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership was a step in the right direction. He also called on the two countries to deepen political trust and exchange experience in legislation and governance.

Al-Sisi said the strong willingness shown by the Chinese government to strengthen ties with Egypt was “unprecedented” and he welcomed more Chinese investment in Egypt.

Al-Sisi has had a packed schedule here in China. During his four-day visit, he’s met with senior officials and representatives from business, universities and the tourism industry.

Before heading home, Al-Sisi is expected to visit Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, to tour factories specializing in technology and manufacturing.
