Mugabe supporters in Zimbabwe parliament may oust Mujuru loyalists

Backers of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe are planning to recall at least 100 members of parliament thought to be loyal to ousted Vice President Joice Mujuru.

Mugabe supporters fear the legislators will conspire with the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) to launch a bid to impeach Mugabe, as previous attempts have failed due to a lack of majority support.

ZIFM Stereo News Editor, Kelvin Jakachira said he does not anticipate any member of the MDC conspiring to impeach the president.

“You can even see the dismissed ministers were themselves apologetic; They were actually praising the president for an opportunity to serve as ministers,” Jakachira said.

Many party members are adapting dramatic changes in the leadership according, Jakachira said.

“To just recall MPs without first educating the grassroots about what is going on in ZANU PF may be suicidal, because those MPs who may be recalled may bounce back into parliament as independents, and that may not be good for the ZANU PF brand,” said Jakachira.

Jakachira added that any movement towards impeachment is purely speculation.
