World’s largest ice rink opens in Moscow

Moscow has built a vast skating space for all ice lovers. The ice complex is the largest in the world. Boasting a special lovers’ alley, a playground, a hockey rink and a large open skating space, the ice complex is the largest in the world. CCTV’s Tom Barton reported the story from Moscow.

Pavel Pyatkov is a break dancer and skater trying to create a fusion of the two skills on the ice. Pyatko is attempting this at Moscow new rink, which is more than 20,000 square meters in size.

“I try to get a session between 10 and 14 o’clock when there are fewer people here and there is space to skate, by five in the evening there are big queues,” Pyatkov said.

Lessons are on offer, it’s not always as easy as it may sound.

The temperature is below -20 degrees, though you wouldn’t know it’s that cold from people’s faces. Ice skating is a popular Russian pastime in the winter, and now Russians have a bigger place than ever to enjoy it.

The new ice rink is set in the grounds of Moscow’s old Soviet All Russian exhibition center. It is also served by a number of cafes and skate sharpening stations.
