It's been five years since a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, killing more than 200,000 people and destroying much of the country's capital city. CCTV America’s Owen Fairclough reported from Haiti.

In Port-au-Prince, some gathered for mass at a new church built next to ruins of The National Cathedral. Others attended a ceremony at a mass grave in the capital’s outskirts, where thousands of the earthquake’s victims are buried.

For survivors, Jan. 12 signifies what they lost and what they still have to rebuild. So far, Haiti has received 80 percent of more than $12.5 billion in promised aid. But it remains a desperately poor country, facing many of the same challenges as before the quake.
