The 72nd Golden Globe Awards show brought a lot of the regular award-season fare — surprises, tears, jokes — but also support expressed toward freedom of expression in light of the recent attacks in Paris. CCTV America’s May Lee reported this story from Los Angeles.

“My mother always told me a happy person was someone who had work and love,” Julianne Moore, who for her role in “Still Alice” won best actress in a drama, said.

“Getting to work with Stephen Hawking who despite all the obstacles that were put in his way has lived so passionately and fully and with great humor was one of the great honors of my life,” Eddie Redmayne, who took home the Golden Globe for best actor for his portrayal of Hawking in “The Theory of Everything,” said.

For his role in “Birdman,” Michael Keaton won best actor in a comedy or musical. The award and the love for his son brought him to tears.

“My best friend is kind, intelligent, funny, talented, considerate, thoughtful. Did I say kind? He also happens to be my son, Sean,” Keaton said.

George Clooney, who received the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement award, expressed support for those who marched in Paris and around the world Sunday.

“They marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear. We won’t do it. So, je suis Charlie,” Clooney said, echoing one of the rallying cries of the movement, which means “I am Charlie.”

The award for best motion picture in the drama category went to the film that took 12 years to make, “Boyhood.”

“When he came to us 12 years ago with this project, 14 years ago we said yes because the man has such humanity, he’s so humble he put his own life into this movie,” producer Jonathan Sehring said.
