The Heat discusses the future of coal production and consumption

The Heat

China and the U.S. are the chief producers and consumers of the fossil fuel coal. They are also the two largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. The burning of coal for electricity accounts for much of the smog that blankets Beijing. But both China and the U.S. have promised a shift away from coal as a primary power source.

CCTV America’s Sean Callebs reported this story from Mississippi.

The Heat’s Anand Naidoo interviewed Janet Gellici, executive vice president and chief operating officer at the National Coal Council, about the benefits of coal in the U.S.

Anand Naidoo also interviewed Alex Trembath, a senior analyst at the think tank The Breakthrough Institute, about some of the concerns of coal production and consumption.
