UK to incorporate lessons from Paris attacks into police training exercises

The U.K. government said it will incorporate elements of the Paris terrorist attacks into future police training exercises. CCTV America’s Dan Whitehead reported from Downing Street.

A day after Prime Minster David Cameron joined world leaders at a mass march in Paris, he returned to chair a security meeting with top officials. Police, security agencies, and the military agreed that parts of the attacks in Paris should be included in future training exercises.

Other measures included the need for cordons to be set up quickly around the site of a terror attack to ensure suspects cannot escape the area.

“We’re always taking every precaution that we can to keep our country safe, and that means actions by the security services and by the police. But of course we all in our own lives have to be vigilant as well,” Cameron said.

He also ordered a further crackdown on firearms being illegally smuggled across borders. The security meeting came as a new counter-terrorism bill was to be discussed this week in Parliament.

Cameron has vowed to give the security agencies more powers to monitor online and telephone conversations between terror suspects. For now, the Prime Minister has asked both the police and military to work closely to ensure a response to an attack here is both swift and appropriate.
