There is only one day left before the biggest event of the year in Rio de Janeiro, the 2015 Rio Carnival Samba Championship. Samba schools across the city are busy practicing for this spectacular show. Lucrecia Franco reported this story from Rio de Janeiro.

It takes almost a full year to stage this unique show, including setting up a special samba stadium, known as the Sambodromo.

Kellyn Rosa has been exercising and dieting for months to prepare for her role as a leading dancer.

“We are rehearsing to know if we can get in step with very high heels. It demands a lot of training,” she said.

Nearly 4,000 participants from Rio’s top samba schools are hoping to win cash prizes.

“This 2015 carnival, this year of 2015 is decisive. We are fighting for all or nothing,” Mangueira Samba School Vice President Aramis Santos said.

Samba schools have only one opportunity to rehearse at the Sambodromo, Any mistake can cost valuable points on the night of the parade.

“It is risky because we can’t fail. The judges want to see everything perfect .We need to dance our best and be happy,” Dancer Amanda Pinheiro said.
