China and Japan agree to format to discuss future air, sea conflicts

China and Japan have agreed to hold discussions should their defense organizations get involved in conflict over air and maritime issues, following high-level negotiations in Yokohama on Thursday.

The two sides also agreed to continue cooperation on cracking down on maritime crimes such as smuggling. The countries will also enhance cooperation in search and rescue efforts, and in scientific and environmental projects.

The countries will continue talks later this year.
