Journalist Pablo Pardo on the use of torture by the United States

The Guantanamo Bay prison is a U.S.-run detention center facility located on the southeastern coast of Cuba. Since the September 11th, 2001 attack on the United States, the site has been used as a detention center for suspects of acts of terror.

This past December, the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee released a report detailing abuse to detainees by the U.S. military at the facility, including acts of torture.

Journalist Pablo Pardo has reported extensively on these issues, and is the author of a book titled “Monster”, which recounts with chilling details the testimony of Damien Corsetti, a U.S. soldier involved in interrogations in places like the Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan or Abu Ghraib in Iraq. Corsetti confessed to many abuses during his years of service but eventually was acquitted of his crimes by a U.S. court.

Pardo talks to Americas Now anchor Elaine Reyes about his findings, and his reaction to the report on torture released by the U.S. Senate.
