Jordanian fighter jets struck ISIL targets in Raqaa, Syria on Thursday in response to the brutal ISIL killing of Jordanian pilot, Muath al-Kasasbeh. Meanwhile Jordan’s King Abdullah paid respects to the pilot’s family in the country’s south as hundreds gathered to show support and express hope that the kingdom will continue striking blows to the extremist group. The mourning tent for al-Kasasbeh has seen a steady stream of visitors pay their respects. The family has received thousands from all over the country.

On Thursday, the family prepared for the arrival of their king. Kasasbeh’s mother was hospitalized after her son’s horrific death went public and was not there. His wife, traumatized by news of the pilot’s death, was led away.

King Abdullah paid condolences to Kasesbeh’s father and extended family. As he approached the hundreds waiting for his arrival, a cheer went up in the crowd.

The king vowed revenge against ISIL for the pilot’s brutal murder. Al-Kasasbeh’s family members said the kingdom’s execution of two ISIL-affiliated prisoners does not suffice.

“That’s not enough at all. There must be another tactic to fight. Or to kill,” Yunis Kasesbah, the slain pilot’s uncle said.

Fighter jets repeatedly made rounds overhead as the king paid respects inside the tent. Not long after, state television confirmed Jordanian airstrikes on ISIL’s stronghold in Raqaa.
