The President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, says he is still confident some, if not all, of the more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls will soon be rescued as he spoke to local reporters Thursday evening in Nigeria.

The terrorist group Boko Haram abducted 279 girls from their school in northeastern Nigeria in April 2014. A few dozen have escaped, but an estimated 222 are still missing.

This week, Niger became the latest country to join a regional coalition to fight Boko Haram. They are working alongside troops from Chad, Cameroon, and Benin. In all, about 8,700 troops are now fighting Boko Haram.

But CCTV’s Robert Nagila said hopes are fading for most Nigerians that the girls will ever be rescued.
