U.S. post offices selling Chinese New Year stamps

Since 1992 the U.S. postal service has paid homage to the lunar New Year. The postal service is currently on its second series of stamps created by artist Kam Mak who was born in Hong Kong but raised predominantly in New York City’s Chinatown. CCTV’s Karina Huber filed this report from New York.

Illustrator Kam Mak, a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, is currently working on a series of paintings that use egg yolk as a medium. It’s an ancient technique called tempera that was used by Italian artists Michelangelo and Botticelli.

For Mak’s stamp series on Chinese New Year he also did extensive historical research and after some time he discovered that most stamps primarily feature an animal of the zodiac. For Mak, doing the same didn’t feel right, so he tried something a bit different.

Kam Mak’s stamps are currently available at the U.S. post office locations and online for international buyers.
