Chinese-American chefs inspired by Asian Fusion cuisine

The Chinese New Year is not only about family but also about food, often included grand meals. Chinese cuisine is certainly popular in both the East and West, but its influence is sometimes born out in other ways.

CCTV America’s Mark Niu filed this report from San Mateo, California.

The International Culinary Center (ICC) has taught some of America’s most famous chef’s like Bobby Flay and David Chang. At ICC’s Northern California location, 24-year-old Liu Yang has carved out his own path.

“It’s not only about becoming a top chef…it’s how to create a memory of the food to all the people’s around, all the guests,” Liu explained.

What Liu loves to do most is combine the school’s French-technique training with his Asian influence, which includes growing up in his family’s Chinese restaurant.

The Culinary Center is recognizing the popularity of Asian Fusion cuisine worldwide. An increasing number of Asian students attend ICC each year and the school even produced a special Asian Kitchen series.

“I strongly believe that there’s two cooking in the world that is Chinese and French that are very technical, where the repertoire is very, very broad,” Marc Pavlovic, the ICC’s culinary director said.
