In a television address Sunday, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi told Egypt that he remains in control also promising a series of reforms.

CCTV America’s Adel El-Mahrouky filed this report from Cairo.

In a brief speech on his first eight months in office the Egyptian president answered national political concerns and admitted that innocent youth are being held behind bars, but promised their release.

The country has been troubled by the deaths of activists and EL Zamalek football fans, allegedly at the hands of police. The president promised to hold any official accountable if found guilty.

The president also asked Egyptians to be patient as his government tries to revive the economy, announcing a multi-billion dollar slum restoration project.

President Sisi also addressed international concerns touching on the fight against ISIL in Libya and a nuclear plant deal with Russia.
“We defend our nation from inside, we do not invade. We have hit 13 sites that were carefully studied. We precisely gathered information on the location and who is in it,” the president said. “I am saying this so that no one thinks we hit civilians. Regarding our nuclear reactor, Egypt is a reasonable country, it doesn’t take risks and it has not hidden agendas, we are seeking peaceful nuclear energy, we are part of the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and we are committed to it.”

The president asked Arab and African nations to stay united against the rising threats of terrorism.
