Indonesia is recalling its ambassador to Brazil, adding to a diplomatic row over executions.
A Brazilian drug smuggler was put to death last month.

CCTV’s Stephen Gibbs filed this report from Rio De Janeiro.

Indonesia has recalled its ambassador to Brazil in the latest escalation of a diplomatic row between the two developing powers.

The dispute followed January’s execution of a Brazilian drug smuggler in Indonesia, even after a personal plea from Brazil’s president.

A second Brazilian is also facing execution in the Asian country, again on drug trafficking charges.

Brazilian Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira was one of five foreigners waiting execution by firing squad in Indonesia. Marco Archer was arrested in 2003.

The 53-year-old was caught smuggling 13 kilograms of cocaine inside the frame of his para glider at Jakarta’s international airport.

Since 2004, he has been waiting on death row.

Since taking office in 2014, Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has taken an increasingly hard line against drug trafficking.

He has vowed to make his country “drug free” this year.

The issue has caused a diplomatic row between Brazil and Indonesia.

Now, there is another Brazilian facing possible imminent execution.
